Dr. Paras Sharma is the co-founder and Director of The Alternative Story, a Bengaluru-based mental health startup, and a visiting professor at Surana College. With a Master’s in Counselling and a Doctorate in Psychology, he has 14+ years of experience across hospitals, helplines, corporate mental health, and academia. He played a key role in setting up India’s largest counselling helpline and contributed to government initiatives addressing Violence Against Women in multiple states. Paras, who lives with mental illness, neurodivergence, and chronic illness, actively engages in awareness-building and research on these topics.

Pamposh Raina is an independent journalist and misinformation expert leading the Deepfakes Analysis Unit under the Misinformation Combat Alliance. She has reported for The New York Times, AFP, and other international publications on policy, gender, and politics. As a fact-checking and media trainer, she has worked with the Google News Initiative and Solutions Journalism Network. Her research includes analysing misinformation trends during the 2019 Indian elections for WhatsApp and UC Berkeley’s Human Rights Center, as well as documenting climate change impacts on small farming communities. She holds a master’s in Sociology from Delhi School of Economics and has studied Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University.

We are community media activists with a background in computer science. Our focus now is on storytelling methods and encouraging people from communities marginalised by the “literates”, especially women, to tell their own stories and participate in documentation of their ways of life. Towards this goal, initiatives like IruWay, a rural research lab; Anthillhacks, location-celebrating inclusive camps; Renarration Web, an annotations-driven social semantic web; COW mesh, a decentralised community mesh network with rich media services; and CrafterSpace, a crafts and maker space for women and youth, are finding energies.
